Pocahontas Coming to stage of the Carroll Arts Center

This show, put on by young actors, will run May 10-12.

More than 40 young actors, singers and dancers will take the stage in early May in a delightful performance of the musical “Pocahontas” The "Wordspinner" and the rhythmic beat of the tom-toms open and close this charming musical adventure for all age groups.   The production is a culmination of a rigorous rehearsal process under the direction of Julie Herber of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre and Tabetha White, the Arts Council’s Children’s Theatre Coordinator, according to an Arts Council news release.  It features students in grades three through five and is filled with exuberant music, lively dance numbers and memorable characters. Carroll Arts Center Gets Spruced Up for its 10th Anniversary

The Carroll County Arts Center received $50,000 worth of repairs and updates on its 10-year anniversary.

This April marks the 10-year anniversary of the Carroll County Arts Center. The Carroll County Arts Council, formed in 1969 originally renovated this 76-year-old theatre in 2003.  The center has since acted as an art gallery for local artists, a classroom for aspiring artists, a theatre showcasing movies, shows, performances and productions of all kinds and more. In honor of the anniversary, the Carroll County Arts Council board of directors allocated $50,000 to be used to spruce up its Westminster Main Street location.  The center closed down for a week in early January in order to undergo the updates.  Repairs were made to some water damaged areas and an overhang was added at the loading dock.  The theatre portion of the center received …

'Beauty' Unveiled at Carroll Arts Center

This exhibit will present the works of seven women who create in various media and diverse styles.

The Tevis Gallery at the Carroll Arts Center will feature an exhibit entitled “Beautiful” from January 15 to March 15. The exhibit will highlight the work of seven female artists. According to a Carroll Arts Center news release, elegant formal portraits and classically inspired sculpture by Kateryna  Dovgan will be juxtaposed next to the bold, painterly brush stroke figurative work of Sherrill Cooper.  Lisa Sheppard’s masterful use of pastel and watercolor perfection by Lucille Kerns, and the oil masterpieces of Cris Wenderoth and meticulously acrylic vistas of Darlene Jones give viewers a look and landscape, cityscape and seascape.  The bold color and shape in Felisa Flecker’s paintings provides an abstract interlude for the show. Rocky Horror Picture Show at Carroll Arts Center

Don your fishnets and stiletto heels and brush up on your “Time Warp” steps!  The Carroll Arts Center, 91 West Main St. will be hosting its annual screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 p.m. The campy horror film initially flopped when it was released in 1975, but now claims to be the largest grossing movie that never received a wide release.  It has never quite faded away and has since grossed more than $140 million.  It has legions of followers and even has an official fan club, according to a Carroll Arts Center news release.  The film features a young Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry as the transvestite Dr. Frank N. Carroll Arts Center Hosts Theatre Showcase

Local theatre companies will present a variety of acts and numbers at this first annual showcase event.

Several local theatre groups will perform in the first annual Carroll County Theatre Showcase to shine a much-deserved spotlight on the talents in our community and to inspire audiences to support these outstanding performing groups.  The Carroll Arts Center will host the first annual Carroll County Theatre Showcase on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 pm.  Local theatres companies will be presenting a wide variety of short scenes, monologues and musical numbers including those from past favorites as well as “sneak peeks” at upcoming shows.  The audience will enjoy short scenes, monologues and musical numbers performed by each of our County’s talented theatre groups including The Carroll Players, Carroll County School for the Performing Arts, …

Festival of Wreaths: Calling All Wreath Decorators

Registration is open for the Carroll County Arts Council's 15th Annual Festival of Wreaths.

The Carroll County Arts Council is putting the call out for anyone who is creative, inventive, involved, engaged and likes a challenge.  Artists, decorators, clubs, businesses and schools are invited to participate in the 15th Annual Festival of Wreaths to be held Nov. 24 – Dec. 1 at the Carroll Arts Center in downtown Westminster.   A total of 2,511 unique wreaths have been displayed over the past 14 years and collectively they have raised $242,691 for the organization, according to an Arts Council news release.  Previous wreath entries have been adorned with everything from $50 bills, to gemstones, to duct tape, to CROCS shoes, to thumbtacks to wine corks, to peacock feathers, to used auto parts, to golf balls to dog biscuits…and …

Irish Dance Company Performs at Carroll Arts Center

The Teelin Irish Dance Company will perform at the Carroll County Arts Council on Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m.  The Teelin Irish Dance Company is known for performances that accentuate the energy of Irish dance with envelope-pushing choreography, according to a  news release from the Arts Council. From the graceful beauty of jigs and reels, to the thundering beat of percussive dance, a performance by this company leaves audience members at the edge of their seats. The group has performed at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage in DC, Turning Stone Resort and Casino in New York, the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore and on the main stage of the Maryland Irish Festival. Festival of Wreaths Winners Announced

This year 220 holiday wreaths were on display at the Carroll County Arts Center.

The 14th Annual Festival of Wreaths at the Carroll County Arts Center raised $23,444 this year. The funds will help support Arts Council programs and events. Wreaths were created by 219 talented decorators this year and more than 3,000 visited the event. The public voted on their favorites and the award winners are as follows: Artistic Excellence Awards:
