Sheriff’s Office Reminds Motorists to Stay Sober, Drive Safe and Buckle Up

Police said they will be out in force during the holidays.

In conjunction with the National Click it or Ticket Seatbelt Usage Campaign, Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies said they will be out in extra force during the Thanksgiving Holiday period to promote public safety by enforcing motor vehicle laws including, drunk/drugged driving, aggressive driving and seatbelt violations.  According to AAA, approximately 42.2 million people will travel more than fifty miles to visit family and friends this coming weekend, with many driving during nighttime hours police said in a release. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office encourages all motorists and passengers to buckle up before starting your journey.  Do not drive while drowsy and take extra time for breaks during long trips and if necessary, share …

Eldersburg Man Assaulted Outside his Home, Police Search for Suspects

Police say two unidentified individuals assaulted a man after attempting to get into his home.

Just before 11 a.m. Monday, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 1900 block of Stillwater Road in Eldersburg to investigate a serious assault, according to a news release.  Deputies said they found a 57-year-old male bleeding from a head wound.  According to officers, an unknown male and female approached the victim's residence and asked to use the phone.  The victim denied the couple access and a few minutes later left his home. As the victim was getting in his car, the two subjects, both armed with unknown weapons, accosted him at his vehicle, demanding that he let them inside his residence, according to an official report. Police: Man Forced Himself into Home, Assaulted Homeowner

Police are looking for Joseph Jerome Page Jr., wanted on several charges in a Taneytown assault. He is armed and dangerous, officials said.

Sheriff deputies are searching for a man who they say assaulted a Taneytown homeowner.  Just before midnight Sept. 13, police say Joseph Jerome Page Jr., 34, of Taneytown, forced his way into an acquaintance's home in the 500 block of Willow Avenue in Taneytown. According to a sheriff's report, Page punched the homeowner in the face before threatening him with a handgun. The homeowner was able to push Page from the residence and police say Page fled the area. Sheriff’s deputies attempted to locate Page, and an unknown black male, approximately five feet, 11 inches tall, who accompanied Page to the home, according to police.  They left the scene in a 2005 Silver Infinite SUV, Maryland registration 6AJ8179. Carroll County's Most Wanted Javier Villas-Franco is wanted for violation of probation, second degree assault and making false statements. Villas-Franco is described as a white male with green eyes and black hair. His last known address was 316 Main St., New Windsor. Brad Eward Nusbaum is wanted for non-child support. Carroll County Sheriff's Fingerprinting Services Go Digitial

Until now, Carroll County was the only Maryland county to not have a LiveScan electronic fingerprinting site available for use by the general public, the Sheriff's office said.

On Tuesday, July 17 the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office will being offering public fingerprinting services using LiveScan technology.  LiveScan scans and electronically transmits fingerprints to the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) for selected employment, volunteer and professional licensing services requiring criminal history checks. Sheriff Makes Accident Reports Available Online

Carroll County vehicle accident reports are now available online.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is making motor vehicle accident reports available online.  Motor vehicle accident reports completed on or after July 1, 2012, can now be accessed through the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Website at www.carrollcountysheriff.com or, www.policereports.us. Once there, scroll down to the map and click on Maryland and then click on “Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.” According to the department, in 2011 Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies completed 441 motor vehicle accident reports, with administrative staff manually processing several requests for copies of each report. Report: Fired Prosecutor Sues Carroll County Times

Former Carroll County Prosecutor David Daggett has filed a $1 million defamation suit against the Carroll County Times, according to a news report.

The Daily Record reports that former Carroll County prosecutor David Daggett is suing the Carroll County Times for $1 million, alleging it erroneously reported that he had falsely testified at a court hearing in a murder trial. The testimony to which Daggett referred was given during a hearing for Cassandra Glover, charged along with her boyfriend, Russell Scott Laderer Jr., in the death of Jeremiah DeMario, 25, who was fatally stabbed in 2010 outside his Hampstead home. Patch reported that the charges were dropped against Glover and Laderer on March 12 when State's Attorney Jerry Barnes accused the Carroll County Sheriff's Department of botching the investigation. Several local, county and state agencies coordinated to demonstrate an alcohol-related collision and its effects.

When students arrived at South Carroll High School last week, they had no idea they would be subject to a highly orchestrated demonstration staged by local, county and state public safety and law officials. The Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, Sykesville Freedom District VFD, Gamber VFD and Mt. Airy VFC were among several departments present at "Every 15 Minutes," a two-day program that offers real-life experience without the real-life risks. Man Charged With Thefts From Cars Parked Outside of Finksburg Homes

The thefts occurred overnight on Nov. 12.

A Finksburg man was charged yesterday afternoon for stealing from several unlocked vehicles parked at private homes in the Finksburg area, according to a press release. Cody David Pierce, 22, was charged with theft, fourth degree burglary, and "rogue and vagabond," for the theft of cash, jewelry, electronics and other valuables taken from several unlocked vehicles, according to the release. At least eight residents along Turnberry Court and Lawndale Road in Finksburg reported thefts from their vehicles overnight on Nov. 12 and into the early morning of Nov. 13. Actually it looks like he plead guilty to 'something' on 10/22/2012. Quite the turnaround from lilabeth laughing at the very notion he had stolen other people's property. Of course he got nothing but probation and is supposed to make restitution to the folks he stole from, but good luck with that. The system FAILS again!!   more ›
