Liberty and Century Drama Clubs Win Awards at State Thespian Festival

As the 2013 state champion, Liberty will be performing the play on the national stage in Lincoln, Nebraska in June.

Drama students from Liberty and Century High Schools received numerous awards at the Maryland State Thespian Festival on Jan. 11 and 12. Students competed for scholarships and the opportunity to compete at the National Theatre Festival. Liberty High School students Courtney Jarmush, Christy Czajkowski, and Emily Nupp each received a $32,000 scholarship from Rowan University. Bridget Lindsay won a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice in the Technical Scholarship Competition for her set design for “Tarzan.” Six students achieved ratings of superior in their individual events and are among only 15 students in the state who will advance to the national competition: Three of these students – Anne Devine, Christy Czajkowski, and …

The drama club will present two performances of the "play within a play" this weekend.

Don't Miss 'Beauty and the Beast' at Liberty High

The drama department will perform its first of seven shows scheduled this weekend and next.

The Liberty High School drama department will present "Beauty and the Beast" at the high school's Kathy Schnorr Auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. tonight. Seven showings will be available between this weekend and Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28.  Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults at the door. IBM Employee Raises $10,000 for Century Drama Productions

The Eldersburg high school has received a donation every year for the past 10 years through the efforts of a local charity-minded resident and his company.

  This month marks the 10th year that one local Eldersburg resident has helped to bring Century High School’s drama productions to life. Jeff Meyer, whose children both attended Century High and participated in the drama program, decided to pitch in one year when the school was in need of money to help build sets for productions–and he never stopped. “My son Josh said that they were looking for help building sets for the drama productions in 2002 and 2003,” said Meyer. “I started volunteering around that time and I have been there ever since. My daughter Kate graduated in 2007, but I still help out.” Meyer volunteers his time and in turn his company, IBM, where he works as a project manager in disaster recovery, donates money to the school…
