Obituary: Devin Michael Spence

A public memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at Manchester Valley High School at 1 p.m.

Devin Michael Spence, 23, of Westminster died tragically Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 as the result of an automobile accident. Born June 25, 1989 in Towson, MD, he was the son of Michael and Marjorie Sunderlin Spence. He was a 2007 graduate of Winters Mill High School where he was an active member and group leader his senior year of the Best Buddies program. His senior year he also accompanied the Winters Mill lacrosse team to their first state championship where they won first place. He graduated with a teaching degree from Towson University and was a math teacher at Manchester Valley High School where he was very committed to his students and was recently involved in the schools ski club and was the assistant coach of the Varsity girl’s …

Manchester Valley Teacher Dies in Morning Collision with School Bus

Devin Spence, a math teacher at Manchester Valley High School, was killed in a Monday morning car accident.

Devin Spence, a first-year math teacher at Manchester Valley High School, died Monday morning after his car collided with a private school bus on Sullivan Road. Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to the collision, according to investigators. According to police, Spence's car, a 2001 Ford Focus, was traveling north along Sullivan Road entering a sharp turn in the 1700 block when it slid across the center line, spinning sideways before striking an oncoming school bus that was entering the turn southbound.  After striking the bus, the Ford Focus burst into flames as it spun southbound back across the roadway, coming to rest against the northbound shoulder, police said.   The driver of the Ford Focus, Devin Michael Spence, 24…
