Sykesville Post Office to Reopen Jan. 15

New employees have been hired to run the facility.

The Old Main Line Visitor Center and Sykesville Post Office, 731 Oklahoma Ave., is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 15. The Sykesville Post Office closed in early November after long-time manager Jean Maher was fired, according to an Explore Carroll article. Several days later, the remaining three post office employees resigned in protest to Maher's dismissal, the article reports. With no employees, the post office closed and a heated debate involving Sykesville Mayor Mike Miller, the Town Council and the community ensued. Sykesville Mayor Has High Hopes for Skateboard Park

Mayor Mike Miller is forming a committee to help bring "modern equipment" to the skateboard park in Sykesville.

It may just be a concrete slab right now, but Sykesville Mayor Mike Miller is looking to upgrade the skateboard area at South Branch Park, making it an official place for local teens and adults to use. “The park itself is already referenced in the Town's Master Plan,” said Miller. “That area is designated for outdoor recreation activities, which include skating, maybe hockey, and other ‘hard court’ activities.”  He hopes to advance the idea by forming a committee to bring a new and improved skate park to fruition.  Miller said he was trying to set up the committee’s first meeting for February, but it may be delayed until March.
