Suspect in Eldersburg Double Shooting Indicted on 18 Counts

Police say the motive remains unclear in a double shooting in Eldersburg on July 13, but a grand jury determined that the suspected shooter will face 18 charges.  According to court records, 24-year-old Jacob Bircher of Westminster was indicted on 18 charges Thursday including first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter.  A double shooting at Harvest Inn on Liberty Road in Eldersburg just after midnight Friday, July 13 left one man dead and one at Shock Trauma. Bircher, the suspected shooter, surrendered shortly after without incident in Westminster. David J. Garrett, 36, of the 2100-block of Carmae Rd. in Sykesville was pronounced dead at the scene. Man Accused of Stabbing Co-Worker to Death in Eldersburg

New York man charged with second-degree murder in fatal stabbing at Eldersburg grocery.

  Police have charged a New York man with murder in the stabbing death of a co-cleaning crew worker at an Eldersburg grocery late Tuesday, according to the Maryland State Police. Zamani Lawson, 26, of Jamaica, N.Y., was charged Wednesday with the second-degree murder of a 22-year-old fellow employee from Brooklyn, N.Y., who police have declined to identity pending notification of relatives. The slaying occurred at Martin's supermarket where the two men were working a night shift as contract cleaning workers, police said. Lawson was found in front of the store with blood on his shirt, and the victim was found in a storage area with several stab wounds in the torso, police said. Body of Missing Elkridge Woman Found Under Shed After 21 Years, Husband Charged

Robert Jarrett has been charged in the death of his former wife whose body police believe they found buried in concrete under a shed.

Police have found the body of a woman they believe was killed 21 years ago and charged her husband, who lives on Claire Drive in Elkridge, in her killing. Detectives Wednesday searched the property of Robert Jarrett, 57, and found a body buried in concrete under his shed. They charged him with first and second-degree murder in the killing of his former wife, Christine Jarrett, whom he reported missing in 1991. Robert Jarrett's current wife, from whom police said he is now separated, lived at the property. "Police received permission from the current wife to conduct a search of the property and found the remains of a woman believed to be Christine Jarrett under the floorboards of a shed, buried in concrete," said the Howard County Police …

Murder Charges Dropped, State's Attorney Blames Sheriff

Carroll County State's Attorney Jerry Barnes dismissed charges against a couple accused in the stabbing death of a Hampstead man in September 2010, saying fault lies with the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. The trial was set to begin Monday, March 12. Barnes said in a court document that the sheriff's department made errors in the murder investigation that made prosecution nearly impossible. "...We have reached a point in this case wherein we can no longer legally or ethically overcome the consequences of unconstitutional police procedures utilized in the investigation of these cases, that have resulted in this Court's rightful suppression of the evidence necessary to proceed," Barnes said in a court document. Four Suspects Charged in Carroll County Bar Slaying

The victim, assaulted at a bar in August, later died from his injuries.

Following indictments by a Carroll County grand jury, four suspects Saturday were charged in connection with the death of a Frederick County man who was assaulted at a Keymar bar in August and later died from his injuries.   Three of the suspects are identified as John D. Robey, 52, and his two sons, Jonathan L. Robey, 20, and Thomas J. Robey, 22, all of the 9800 block of Crossfield Road in Hagerstown. Each of the suspects is charged with second degree murder, manslaughter, first degree assault and second degree assault.  John Robey and his two sons lived on Main Street in Woodsboro at the time of the assault.
