Temperatures creep up this week according to the National Weather Service.
We will see typical Maryland spring weather this week - with mild temperatures and rain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Today we can expect showers, mainly before noon, with a high near 57 degrees. According to the NWS, Wednesday will be ... interesting. NWS forecasts both "scattered rain and snow showers before 2 p.m., then scattered rain showers" and "partly sunny with a high near 47." Thursday and Friday will be partly sunny with highs in the low to mid-40s. There is a chance of rain on Saturday but forecasts suggest we will see partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-40s both Saturday and Sunday. What is your favorite part of spring in Carroll County? The tornado watch & flood advisories cover much of Maryland Wednesday night into Thursday.
(Update 8:00 p.m.)—The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 10 Maryland counties. Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, Carroll, Harford Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties were listed on the weather site's alert. The watch is in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday. Harford, Carroll, Howard, Northern Baltimore, Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties, and South Baltimore are under flood advisories until 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rainfall in a short period of time could cause flash flooding in portion of Maryland this afternoon and tonight.
A strong cold front will create the potential for several weather threats in Carroll County this afternoon into tonight to include flash flooding and high wind gusts. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch from 3 p.m. today through late tonight for portions of Maryland including Carroll and Howard Counties. A line of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms will push across the Baltimore and Washington metro areas late this afternoon and evening, according to the NWS. The NWS forecasts a total rainfall of one to three inches, but most of this will fall in a very short period of time, which could cause flash flooding. AccuWeather is warning of a storm possibly bringing snow, power outages and coastal flooding next week.
A "substantial" winter storm could blow its way through Maryland by the middle of next week, according to the weather website AccuWeather. The website’s current forecast predicts a potential for rain that could turn into snow, with coastal flooding and power outages. “While the details are still uncertain, a larger, slower-moving and more powerful storm could slam the mid-Atlantic and New England with heavy precipitation, strong winds and above-normal tides Tuesday (Dec. 18) into Thursday (Dec. 20),” according to an email from AccuWeather. The current forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a chance of rain through the early part of next week, but doesn’t currently predict any snow for the area.

Be prepared for winter weather, and possibly messy roads, Tuesday morning.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Carroll County from 1 a.m. until noon on Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Carroll County could see accumulations of one to two inches, mainly along the Mason Dixon line Tuesday morning. A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., changing to all snow after 3 a.m. and continuing through late morning according to the NWS. We will see temperatures in the lower 30s overnight and the upper 30s during the day Tuesday. The NWS warns that a slushy accumulation could form on roads. Drivers could also face snow covered roads and limited visibility at times.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New Jersey a couple of hours ago and Marylanders can expect heavy rain and strong winds for the next 12 hours.
The eye of Hurricane Sandy is making its way through the upper Chesapeake Bay and 280,000 Maryland residents are without power, Gov. Martin O’Malley said Monday night. The storm made landfall near Cape May, New Jersey, earlier Monday night, according to meteorologist Ken Wedelski of the National Weather Service. It is moving on a north/northwest course but is slowing down, moving at about 23 mph. About half of the citizens in Cecil and Harford counties are without power. Rain and strong winds will continue in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. Showers throughout the day, thunderstorms predicted in late afternoon.
Bring out the rain gear, showers are expected throughout the day, with the potential of severe thunderstorms in the late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is predicting over an inch and a half of rainfall over 12 hours on Tuesday. Wind will range from 10-31 mph, high of 76 and there's a chance of fog between 9-11 a.m., reports NWS. The National Weather Service (NWS) is offering classes for local residents who are interested in becoming weather spotters. The classes are designed to educate the public on weather threats in this area, as well as strengthen the ties between the NWS and the local community. The more spotters the NWS has out there, the faster vital information gets to the NWS forecasters who make the decisions to issue life-saving weather warnings, according to a NWS statement. Skywarn Spotter Classes are offered free of charge. A National Weather Service meteorologist will teach the class.
