Reminder: County Budget Public Hearing Tonight at Carroll Community College

Carroll County commissioners are scheduled to adopt a county budget on May 28.

The board of Carroll County Commissioners is hosting a public hearing this evening to hear feedback from the community on the proposed fiscal year 2014 county budget.  Last week local organizations and nonprofits put the call out for citizens to attend the public hearing and voice their concerns about the budget. Several nonprofits who will see a three percent cut in the proposed budget, including Human Service Programs of Carroll County (HSP) and the Rape Crisis Center, sent emails asking for support as they advocate for level funding.  "Please provide flat funding to all eleven of the nonprofits who provide direct services in our community," The Rape Crisis Center wrote in an email to community members. English Language Ordinance Hearing Scheduled for Tuesday Evening

The board of Carroll County commissioners will hear community comments on the proposed English Language Ordinance.

The board of Carroll County Commissioners voted in September to hold a public hearing for a proposed ordinance that would make English the official language of Carroll County government.   The comissioners voted 4-0 to move the ordinance to a public hearing. Commissioner Robin Bartlett-Frazier was not present at the meeting.  Commissioner Haven Shoemaker presented the proposed ordinance to commissioners, saying that "this isn't a radical motion."  According to Shoemaker, 31 states and two Maryland counties (Frederick and Queen Anne's) have passed similar legislation. Public Hearing: FY 2014 Board of Ed Capital Budget

Have an opinion about the Board of Education Capital Improvement Program? Attend tonight's meeting.

A public hearing on the proposed FY 2014 Capital Budget and the FY15-FY19 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget request will be held tonight, Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Charles I. Ecker Boardroom at the Board of Education offices, located at 125 North Court Street in Westminster. The public is encouraged to attend.      The proposed budget is posted on the CCPS website at www.carrollk12.org under Featured News. This item will be brought back to the Board of Education for approval on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m.

Input Sought for Sheriff's Accreditation Assessment

As part of a voluntary accreditation assessment for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) is scheduled to examine all aspects of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office policy and procedures, management, operations and support services, according to the Sheriff's Office website. The assessors will work to verify that the Carroll County Sheriff's Office meets the Commission's standards. This is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation.
