There are no suspects at this time, according to police.
Approximately $12,000 worth of diesel fuel was stolen from the Finkburg-based C.J. Miller asphalt manufacturing facility Monday night, according to the Sheriff's Department. Col. Phil Kasten of the Carroll County Sheriff's Department said that unknown suspects removed approximately 3,000 gallons of fuel from two tanks. Billy Miller, vice president at C.J. Miller, Inc., said that the company's video surveillance system caught the large white truck on camera but the license plate is not visible. Miller said the suspects took pins out of the gate at the entrance of the facility and removed the gate. The Carroll County Sheriff's Department reports that two men were arrested during the weekend at a sobriety checkpoint in Hampstead. According to a news release, Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies were joined by members of the Westminster Police Department, Maryland State Highway Administration and Catherine’s Cause Saturday night to conduct a sobriety checkpoint. The checkpoint operated from 11 p.m. to approximately 1 a.m. Sunday morning on the 2200 Block of Hanover Pike, in Hampstead. A man died Monday morning after fleeing from police and colliding with another vehicle. At approximately 6:25 Monday morning, DFC Brian Colussy attempted to stop a speeding Dodge Ram 1500, according to a sheriff's report. The motorist failed to stop. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed onto Old Gamber Road, and then turned right onto Old Westminster Pike. He then turned into the Jiffy Mart located at 2284 Baltimore Boulevard and continued, without yielding, onto Rt 140, where he struck a Ford van which had been travelling eastbound, police said. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office reports that two juveniles were charged on several counts in the burning of a wooden cross in a victim's driveway. According to a sheriff's department news release, on Dec. 23 at approximately 11:02 p.m., sheriff's deputies and the fire marshall responded to the 500 block of Ravenshead Run Road in Westminster for a burned wooden cross found in the driveway. Police said that an investigation and interviews led them to two juvenile suspects who were taken into custody and charged with second degree malicious burning, race/religion harassment and malicious destruction of property. Police said they arrested two men living at a homeless encampment in Westminster after they assaulted a third man living at the camp Wednesday evening. At approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said they responded to a wooded area adjacent to the CSX train tracks approximately 300 yards South of Goodwin’s Quarry Road for a report of an injured person. According to a police report, deputies found a group of apparently intoxicated homeless people at a makeshift campsite, and began administering first aid to a 48-year-old man found bleeding from his right thigh. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about two suspects who purchased more than $400 worth of gift cards and other merchandise at three Eldersburg businesses using a debit card belonging to a Sykesville man, according to police reports. The victim left his ATM card in a local ATM machine after a transaction on Sept. 8, police said. It is believed the suspects recovered the card from the machine and made six purchases over the next three days before the victim discovered the card missing and closed the account, police said. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Latino female in her 30’s with short, dark brown hair (see attached police photos) who officials said attempted to cash stolen checks against the bank account of an Eldersburg woman. On June 7, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the theft of a purse and other valuables taken from a vehicle parked at the Goddard School, 6300 Goddard Park Drive in Eldersburg, according to a sheriff's department news release. The wallet taken belonged to the Eldersburg woman, and contained several personal documents including personal checks, credit and ATM cards, police said.
