A former Carroll County Sheriff's Office Major pleaded guilty to misconduct charges in court Tuesday morning. Nicholas Plazio of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office resigned Jan. 2 after the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor charged him with misconduct in office. According to charging documents, Plazio willfully and knowingly gave false information to the Carroll County State's Attorney Office, and gave false testimony in court, in connection a homicide case. According to court documents, Plazio pleaded guilty prior to the start of his hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning. Prosecutors allege that Maj. Nicholas Plazio gave false information in a homicide case.
Maj. Nicholas Plazio of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office resigned Wednesday after the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor charged him with misconduct in office. According to charging documents, Plazio willfully and knowingly gave false information to the Carroll County State's Attorney Office, and gave false testimony in court, in connection to cases against Russell Scott Laderer and Cassandra Glover. Laderer and Glover were implicated in the 2010 stabbing death of Jeremiah DeMario of Hampstead. In March, Carroll County State's Attorney Jerry Barnes dismissed charges against Laderer and Glover, saying in a statement that the Carroll County Sheriff's Department was to blame. Former Carroll County Prosecutor David Daggett has filed a $1 million defamation suit against the Carroll County Times, according to a news report.
The Daily Record reports that former Carroll County prosecutor David Daggett is suing the Carroll County Times for $1 million, alleging it erroneously reported that he had falsely testified at a court hearing in a murder trial. The testimony to which Daggett referred was given during a hearing for Cassandra Glover, charged along with her boyfriend, Russell Scott Laderer Jr., in the death of Jeremiah DeMario, 25, who was fatally stabbed in 2010 outside his Hampstead home. Patch reported that the charges were dropped against Glover and Laderer on March 12 when State's Attorney Jerry Barnes accused the Carroll County Sheriff's Department of botching the investigation. I've maintained my position on this since all this was revealed. Both the sheriff's office and state's attorney commands need to be replaced. Kasten is always commenting but he is responsible also. He had his hands on the "memo" and did nothing but hide it with the sheriff. He needs to go also!
