Century High School Captures First State Volleyball Title

The Knights win the state title in their first visit to the finals.

Century High School downed defending Class 2A volleyball champion Fallston 3-1 to win the 2011 title at the University of Maryland Saturday. The Knights made the most of their first trip to the finals handing the Cougars their third loss of the season. The Knights ended the season with a 18-1 mark. "It’s kind of surreal right now. It’s amazing," said a choked up Century coach Becky Groves after the game at the press conference. "Some of these girls I’ve coached for four years and I am just so proud of them." Fallston won the first game 25-23 before Century came back to take the next three games 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21. The Knights were down 16-8 in the second game before coming back for the win. Century Volleyball Moves to State Finals

The girls are on a roll and take on Fallston in the state final game.

The Century Volleyball team topped Loch Raven Wednesday night in the class 2A finals 3-1.  The four game scores were 25-11, 23-25, 25-11, 25-11. Century (17-1) advances to the state final game against Fallston (19-2) at the Ritchie Coliseum at the University of Maryland Saturday. The game tips off at noon with Century as the home team. Fallston topped Calvert Wednesday night 3-1 as well to advance to Saturday's game. Tickets to Saturday's game can be purchased online here.

Century Tops Competition at Linganore Volleyball Tournament

The girls’ volleyball team brought home the big trophy from the Linganore Lancers High School Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

Century High School topped the competition this weekend, bringing home first place out of 10 area teams at the Linganore Lancers High School Volleyball Tournament. The third annual tournament brings together teams from Frederick, Howard and Carroll Counties. This was the second year that Century has brought hope the first place trophy. After coming out as the No. 1 seed in pool play, the Century Knights beat Catoctin High School in two straight sets of the semi-final match. The Knights then conquered Glenelg in the two-set finale to take the championship title.
