You Said It: Should The First Amendment Protect Funeral Protesters?
Community members weigh in on the Supreme Court's recent decision to uphold Westboro Baptist Church's right to picket at funerals.
Today's "You Said It!" series asked members of the community this question: Should the First Amendment protect groups like Westboro Baptist Church that protest at soldier's funerals? The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 last week that the answer is yes in a case brought by Albert Snyder, whose son's funeral in Westminster in 2006 was a target of one of the church's protests. The church's attorney, Margie Phelp, has since said she will challenge similar statutes that prohibit funeral picketing all over the country. So — what do you think?
