Poll: Maryland Doesn't Drink Beer? What?

Maryland ranks 47th in beer consumption in the U.S.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer," Abraham Lincoln said. Apparently, people in the tri-state area do not track with the 16th president of the United States, and select other beverages to meet national crises. Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia all rank in the bottom third of annual shipment and consumption of beer, according to a study from the Beer Institute, quoted by the Washington Business Journal. The Maryland Wine Festival will bring dozens of wineries and tens of thousands of people from across the country to Westminster this weekend, will you partake in the festivities? The event highlights Maryland wines and offers food vendors, craft vendors, live entertainment, wine education seminars and an amateur wine competition. POLL: Should Maryland Allow Alcohol Sales in Grocery Stores?

The proposed liquor store in Wegmans has sparked the debate.

  The proposed 10,000-square-foot liquor store inside the new Columbia Wegmans has reignited the debate on whether wine, beer and liquor should be sold in Maryland grocery and convenience stores. In an expansive article on Saturday, the Baltimore Sun examined how multiple grocery stores are trying to find ways around rules that generally ban chain grocery stores from selling wine, beer and liquor. (There are some exceptions, such as an Eastern Shore Giant location that has a license that has been grandfathered.)
