A wintry weather mix is expected to continue throughout the day.
Carroll County Public Schools are closed today due to inclement weather according to an email alert from the school system. Other closings/delays include: Carroll County was issued a winter weather advisory yesterday afternoon, to continue through 6 p.m. this evening. The Snow Emergency Plan is in effect as of 6 a.m. Monday in Carroll County. The Maryland State Police (MSP) declares snow emergencies with input from the MD State Highway Administration. Once a snow emergency is declared, the law requires certain precautions which include prohibited parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes and the use of snow or all weather tires.

The National Weather Service says the worst weather conditions are expected late tonight through Monday morning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Monday. The advisory, issued for Carroll County and Frederick County in Maryland and some areas of Virginia warns of two to four inches of snow, starting this evening and continuing through the day tomorrow. According to the advisory, "The heaviest snow is expected by the predawn hours Monday morning." Additionally, motorists should take caution as "roads will become snow-covered and slippery, especially across elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses," according to NWS. How is Carroll County handing the snow storm?
Carroll County Roads Bruce Lockard of the Carroll County Roads Department said that all 64 routes in the county have been salted and plowed. "Right now we're just looking at wet snow and minor slush," Lockard told Patch. Lockard said the roads crews are anticipating more snow. "Our forecasts still say more snow this afternoon into the evening hours so we'll be out and about at least through rush hour," Lockard said. "Then we'll assess what we have." According to Lockard there are about 74 pieces of equipment out on the roads, including contractual trucks. The advisory lasts from 5 a.m. until noon in much of Maryland.
Much of Maryland—from the D.C. metro area to the Baltimore suburbs—is under a winter weather advisory Monday morning. The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until noon in Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties, as well as Baltimore City, the National Weather Service announced Sunday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 20s by midday, but morning commuters may encounter freezing rain mixed with sleet and possibly snow, according to the advisory. Two to four inches of snow may fall in Carroll County on Dec. 29.
Carroll County will get another round of snow before the new year begins, according to the National Weather Service. Snow will start falling overnight Friday through late Saturday afternoon in Carroll County, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Approximately 2 to 4 inches will accumulate, the report said. The State Highway Administration (SHA) and Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. (BGE) are warning residents that high winds, cold temperatures and icy roads may cause troubles Thursday. The National Weather Service is forecasting freezing rain overnight into Thursday morning as well as fog and temperatures in the mid- to high-30s. Winds are expected to pick up speed into Thursday, when gusts could approach 50 mph. The Christmas Eve snow storm may not be the last we see of the white stuff this holiday break.
Snow came hard and fast on Christmas Eve, dropping several inches around Carroll County. Keep the gloves and sleds handy as more wintry weather is in the forecast. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts Christmas day to be partly cloudy with a high of 42 degrees. There is a Dense Fog Advisory for the area until 8 a.m. Tuesday. We will see a low of 29 degrees Christmas night. There is a 100 percent chance of a wintry mix on Wednesday with a high of 36 degrees and a low of 35 degrees overnight. Thursday will be partly cloudy and windy with a 20 percent chance of precipitation according to the NWS. Be prepared for winter weather, and possibly messy roads, Tuesday morning.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Carroll County from 1 a.m. until noon on Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Carroll County could see accumulations of one to two inches, mainly along the Mason Dixon line Tuesday morning. A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., changing to all snow after 3 a.m. and continuing through late morning according to the NWS. We will see temperatures in the lower 30s overnight and the upper 30s during the day Tuesday. The NWS warns that a slushy accumulation could form on roads. Drivers could also face snow covered roads and limited visibility at times.

It really depends. This is the mid-Atlantic and we've had "surprise" storms before where they were calling for a dusting and have gotten several inches. Better to be safe than sorry!   more ›
