Commissioners Cancel Sept. 13 Airport Discussion

Commissioners say information from the FAA made the meeting unnecessary.

The airport runway protection zone (RPZ) discussion tentatively scheduled for Sept. 13 is cancelled in light of a change in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines according to a county news release. During a meeting on Aug. 23, staff and Roy Lewis, from Delta Consultants, told the Board of Commissioners that the FAA had changed the RPZ in such a way that the ARC of Carroll County building was now within this zone. Concern for the ARC caused the Commissioners to schedule a meeting as soon as possible to resolve this issue. Subsequent to the Aug. 23 meeting, county staff and Commissioner Richard Rothschild had conversations with the FAA concerning the RPZ and the negative impact the zone had on the ARC building according to a …

Pilot Dies in Carroll County Plane Crash Friday Morning

The Montgomery County pilot reported having mechanical issues before crashing.

Maryland State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating a plane crash at the Carroll County Regional Airport Friday morning in which the pilot, a Montgomery County man, died. Henry Judkins, 64, of the 7700 block of Epsilon Drive in Rockville was the pilot and the only person aboard the Remos GX, a Light Sport Aircraft, at the time of the crash, police report. Judkins was pronounced dead at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Police said the preliminary investigation suggests that Judkins was one mile away from the Carroll County Regional Airport in Westminster when he reported mechanical issues.  Witnesses observed the aircraft flying at varying altitudes before descending into a grassy area approximately …

(Update) Plane Crashes at Carroll County Regional Airport

Police said the plane crashed around 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Update 12:08 p.m. According to a WBAL 11 News report, the Cessna airplane that crashed at Carroll County Regional Airport Friday morning was registered to a police department in Fresno, Calif. WBAL reported that the plane was apparently attempting to make an emergency landing after having some technical difficulties. The pilot was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition. ------ The Maryland State Police confirmed that a plane crashed at Carroll County Regional Airport Friday morning.
