Carroll's Senators Host Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Gun Legislation

Those who wish to testify are encouraged to preregister.

The Carroll County State Senate Delegation will hold a town hall meeting on Senate Bill 281 – Firearms Safety Act of 2013 (SB281) on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.  The hearing will take place at the Best Western Hotel, 451 Best Western Drive in Westminster. On Feb. 6, the Maryland State Senate held a bill hearing in Annapolis on SB 281.  Several thousand people attended the hearing and many were unable to testify due to time and space constraints.  The Senate Delegation would like to provide this town hall meeting as an opportunity for Carroll County citizens to provide their thoughts to the local Senate Delegation on the legislation. Sykesville Police Host Second Annual 'Safe House' Gun Drop Off

Police encourage citizens to make homes safe over the holidays.

The Sykesville Police Department will host its second annual 'Safe House' Gun Drop off this Saturday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Police are encouraging residents to drop off unwanted firearms and ammunition. According to a news release, the drop off site will be manned, but no questions will be asked of persons dropping items off.  Receipts are available for those who request them. Police warn do NOT bring any loaded weapons to the drop-off point, if help is needed to make sure a firearm is safe, call the police department and someone will come out to help.  Last year’s program was very successful, most of the ammunition and weapons turned in were in poor condition and would probably be dangerous to use according to a news release. …
