The elves at Human Service Programs (HSP) are working overtime to pair local families in need with families who want to help their neighbors during the holiday season. HSP's annual Neighbors in Need (NIN) holiday giving program is underway. So far 1,090 families have applied for holiday assistance according to Program Manager Lori Graham. Last year, approximately 1,400 families received holiday assistance through NIN Graham said. NIN allows families and individuals in need to request assistance over the holidays. According to Graham, the goal is to get as many of those families and individuals in need adopted by people interested in giving back over the holiday season. After several years of donating home goods, non-perishable foods, and sack lunches to Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc. (HSP) for Thanksgiving, Gerstell Academy has expanded its partnership with the county’s Community Action non-profit according to a news release. HSP and Gerstell will partner the non-profit’s Women & Children’s and Family Shelters with the academy’s Upper School. Students in the Upper School will collaborate with the two shelters at HSP to identify needs for residents. The first new project is already planned as a collection for Baskets of Hope containing household and personal care items to help residents set up housekeeping when they transition from the shelter into permanent housing. Folk singer and songwriter Cheryl Wheeler will perform on May 18 to benefit Human Service Programs.
Nationally renowned folk singer and songwriter Cheryl Wheeler will perform a concert at the Carroll Arts Center to benefit Human Service Programs of Carroll County (HSP). According to an event flyer, Wheeler’s musical range is broad, from gut-busting humor and vitriolic satire, to heart-breaking emotion. Her low key, self-deprecating manner, quirky humor, natural story telling ability and beautiful voice have made her one of the shining lights of today’s folk scene.
