Unwined Candles to Open on Main Street

Unwined Candles will soon be available in a storefront location just off of Main Street in Sykesville.

Sykesville residents may recall when the locally made Unwined Candles were chosen to be given out to celebrities in Nashville’s 2012 Official CMA Awards Gift Lounge

Soon, residents and locals will have a chance to shop and browse the eco-friendly candles themselves in a brick-and-mortar location opening up on Main Street in Sykesville.

Unwined candles are unique as they are made from reused wine bottles collected from local businesses and from members in the community.

“A lot of drinking goes into making them,” joked owner Dave Neith.

The candles are handmade and fashioned from all-natural soy wax.  The new shop will offer all 14-16 ‘flavors’ in bottles of different colors, shapes and sizes.

Neith explained that he and wife/co-owner Anna hope to open the shop in late August. Right now they are working to get some final products, furniture and equipment into the store before the grand opening.

The actual address of the shop is still under debate but the location will be behind Main Street’s Gypsy Systers and the Scuba shop. The store front is near a large parking next to the fountain by the post office.

“We'll mainly be focusing on candle sales, but are also bringing in some other unique items - some soap from a talented soap maker whose line was also featured in the CMA Gift Lounge in '12, some art from local artists, some other handcrafted items - all really cool and unique items,” Neith said.

Once the shop is open, the couple plan to officially launch their new line – “Unwind Wickless,” mini-wax melts that people can enjoy using warmers.

“We look forward to having a cool little spot to actually meet all the awesome local customers that we have - along with all of the people who just drop off wine bottles at our house. We look forward to trying to push hand-made items and unique gifts - we're excited,” Neith said.
