After 4-Hour Lockdown, Police Ramp Up Presence at Carroll Schools

Police said measures were precautionary after threats on Thursday.

There will be an increased police presence at Carroll County Public Schools on Friday after phoned-in threats to shoot students Thursday upon dismissal resulted in a prolonged lockdown, according to WBAL.

The school at 1300 West Old Liberty Road was reportedly locked down for more than four hours Thursday afternoon.

South Carroll High School in Sykesville received an anonymous call threatening "shooting and choas" after 2 p.m. on Thursday, with six additional calls coming in as police responded, WJZ reported.

Bomb-sniffing dogs and police with rifles searched the perimeter and the school, including students, their bags and their lockers, according to WBAL.

Unrelated to the threats, police charged a female student upon finding she was in possession of "personal use quantities" of marijuana, the Carroll County Times reported.

As the sun set Thursday, parents continued to wait for their children outside the school.

Dismissal time at the high school is normally 2:20 p.m., according to the Carroll Eagle, which reported students and staff were allowed to leave at 6:50 p.m. Thursday.

The sheriff's office said the threats were not credible but that as a precaution, there would be heavy police presence at schools around the county on Friday, WJZ reported.
